It was consecrated on 25 December 1924. It was built by the British Wesleyan Methodists, now the Cathedral, under the jurisdiction of the Church of South India. The construction work of this cathedral went on for 10 years and it is renowned for its large pointed stained glass windows, for the floor tiles from famous potteries were shipped from England. It is built in the Gothic Revival Architectural style and Italian masons were specially brought in to lay the six coloured mosaic flooring with intricate design. There are enormous pillars that support the building which has a gallery going round it on three sides. These pillars are made of grey stone and are finely finished and polished. The church is made sound proof by using the sponge on the roof and then vaulting the roof. The vaulting is also striking in the design that has squares in it.
